Radio Mernet meeting

Yesterday we had a very nice Radio Mernet meeting and we got a step closer to our goal of lunching a service in five Mediterranean languages for the B&H population.

In the upcoming week we will work on the contents and the schedule and at the next meeting we will be able to put together a rough preview (on paper) for our pilot.

All the languages team are working on the issues to address (both for features and interviews) but if you have any suggestion feel free to contact us!

We are always hungry for new ideas and fresh points of view!

Back from coffee-break!

If, usually, the last week of August is associated with the sad concept of going back to work, what is a rainy last week of August associated with, then?

I really can’t decide if it’s better to get back to the office with bad or good weather, and do you know why? Because Mernet never goes on vacation!

That’s true, we have been working all summer to bring you new exciting projects and to keep up with our international academic relationships, to include fresh blood in our volunteers ranks.

And with all the new ideas we have, we are definitely going to need all the help we can find: radio project, community surveys, public events, publishing, year of bio-diversity... calling it a “handful” really is a euphemism.

So where to start from to bring you up to speed?

I guess it is best to mention our new members first: G. from (and for) Germany, C. from France and L. from Italy are what we were waiting for to implement our law, arts and social sciences “departments”.

For what concern our projects, as you might have heard, the CNS (Community Needs Survey) template is online and a press release is on its way for the end of September with the first evaluation from the beta version and Radio Mernet will be brought back up from the “sleeping status” next week (as I said, we do not go on vacation but many of our external consultants do).

That’s for the immediate future, as in September/October (first week): you have to keep in mind that at Mernet we don’t just throw parties (like somebody in CB thought) but we also do private and public counselling, helping the Mediterranean community in B&H in any way we can.

We are here to improve our service and improve our community, with your precious help we can do both and still have time to throw our famous “dancing feast”!

Stay tuned for more Mediterranean news!

All the best

Tom

What's the target of CNS?

Dear friends,

Mediterranean Resources Network (MERNET) has recently designed a questionnaire to identify the living conditions and the needs of the Mediterranean community in Brighton & Hove.

This questionnaire is part of Mernet’s Community Needs Survey (CNS) project. We are supported by the Community University Partnership Programme (CUPP) of the University of Brighton. We are also assisted by a number of official and academic bodies who offered their kind support with statistical data.

If you are from one of the countries listed below, we would like you to answer some questions about your background, so that we can use the results to create community-based projects that will address your concerns. Your views are very important to us.

If you are not from a Mediterranean country in the following list, we will be grateful if you can kindly ask any of your Mediterranean contacts who live in Brighton & Hove (friends, classmates, neighbours, colleagues) if they can contact us (or we can contact them if they give their consent). We will send them a print copy or the e-mail version of the questionnaire.
They can fill it in and return to us.

The questionnaire is confidential and anonymous. We will not pass on your personal details to anybody else. It should take approximately 15minutes to complete and if you wish to omit certain data please feel free to do so.

Mediterranean countries covered: Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Vatican.
